Obtaining a job in the wine industry often requires previous experience working with wine in some capacity. The Vintners Institute Academy (VIA) seeks to attract and inspire new, entry-level workers into the wine industry by providing the knowledge they need to communicate effectively with their employer and gain job satisfaction. Job satisfaction comes with having a big picture understanding of how the industry works as well as how the industry contributes to ensuring a cleaner and greener tomorrow.
Our grape-to-glass courses not only provide the big-picture knowledge needed to understand the work’s purpose, but also the industry vocabulary required to learn and be mentored on-the-job. Students that gain their certificates are crossed-trained in the fundamentals of vineyard, winery or tasting room careers.
Each course is delivered 100% asynchronously in English or Spanish via the Canvas learning management system. Each course takes approximately 3-4 hours per week of study over a 5 or 8-week span, depending on the course selected. Assignments for each week include a group discussion where students are asked to summarize and apply that week’s concepts in their own words and take a quiz to gauge student retention of key concepts. These assignments are graded within 72 hours of submission with individualized feedback by each instructor.
